Cerrada – Closing of the bones ceremony
One of my offerings I am most passionate about is a cerrada, also known as closing of the bones ceremony.
I follow the cerrada taught by Naoli Vinaver, a traditional Mexican midwife. Traditionally, a cerrada is there to mark an end of a period. In Mexican culture it is done not only to postpartum women but to anyone going through an important milestone they wish to close off – when a loved one dies, before getting married, having recovered from illness, etc. I offer the cerrada not only to postpartum women but to anyone feeling the call to mark an end of something in their lives in order to make room for something new. For postpartum women in particular, the cerrada is important and meaningful as a way of closing the birth portal. Pregnancy and birth are both such gestures of growth and expansion, giving room for suppressed feeling, memories and emotions to arise. When the mother feels ready, usually after an extended period of rest and recovery, the cerrada is offered as a way of closing that portal, once all that has risen to the surface has been processed and integrated. By having a ceremony, the mother is making a statement to herself, where she recognises that she is ready to enter a new stage in her motherhood and womanhood. The ceremony is between 4-5 hours long and consists of various elements and stages. If you feel called to have a ceremony or would like more information, feel free to get in touch and I can share more of this with you. Investment: $450 |
I truly believe in the importance of mother centred care. If your financial situation is preventing you from accessing such support, please don't let this stop you. Get in touch and let's see if we can work out an exchange with which we are both happy.
I acknowledge the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation, the traditional custodians of the land on which I live and work. I acknowledge and respect their ongoing connection to land, waterways, and community. I recognise that I live and work on stolen land and that sovereignty was never ceded. I express my deep respect and gratitude for all Elders past, present, and emerging.
