INNATE Postpartum Care:
Planning for the Fourth Trimester Course |
The fourth trimester is recognised in many traditions as a period of rest, nourishment and replenishment, deemed essential as a way of avoiding depletion and and maintaining health for the mother-baby dyad. It is not a coincidence that this period is referred to as a Sacred Window in Ayurvedic practices or the Golden month in traditional Chinese medicine. They are all MOTHER CENTRED care practices.
After the expansion and opening that is pregnancy and labour, the 5 essential postpartum care elements are required for both short and long term health, these being: extended resting period, warmth, proper nutrition, bodywork and community. Our current expectations of postpartum mothers and the lack of community support are driving them to physical and mental depletions. Preparing for the postpartum period requires understanding of these 5 principles which are rooted in the physiology of the postpartum body. Physiological care reduces the rate of perinatal mood disorders, prevents organ prolapse, increases healthy attachment, and helps with an overall physical and emotional recovery. I am very passionate about this course and I truly believe that by planting these seeds of knowledge throughout our community, the way we see motherhood and mother centred care will change, paving the way to healthier communities. Healthy mothers means healthy babies. Healthy babies grow into healthy, caring adults who grow into shaping future communities. Investing in our mothers' health is investing in our children's' future. Learn more about the course HERE |

I acknowledge the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation, the traditional custodians of the land on which I live and work. I acknowledge and respect their ongoing connection to land, waterways, and community. I recognise that I live and work on stolen land and that sovereignty was never ceded. I express my deep respect and gratitude for all Elders past, present, and emerging.
